Hey, We started watching some of your podcasts today in class. Seem like you have a lot of fun doing those!

I think that I heard you speak this morning on one of the local radio stations about one of the online communities for young people to adults centered on art. I really appreciated a number of the things you said (particularly what was said about the differences between the current generation and former generations in terms of technology) and really think that the things ESSDACK is doing for online learning and communication is fabulous!

I am getting better response during class discussions and we are now moving those into classroom blogs. This week's blog focusing on questioning methods to get students motivated and performing at higher levels of thinking.

What a great opportunity this could be for pre-service teachers. I hope this site continues to grow and people take advantage of having the opportunity to showcase their talents. The educational contacts active members will make will be invaluable.

Kevin,
The students enrolled in my Technology in the Classroom course at Sterling College will be required to setup and maintain a page within this community. I will have them participate in discussions and provide classroom lessons they develop as part of their website. What is best is that all videos and podcasts they make will need to be posted via this site. Wow, can you tell I am excited and ready to get them started?

Recycled Wings

I was teaching art to grades one through twelve and each day was a dead run from class to class and from one school to another. I got to see my grade school kids once each week for forty minutes so I had a very short time to capture their interest and keep them excited about art. Because I didn’t have the kids in my class every day, I struggled to build the sense of community that I wanted them to have while they were in my room. I started thinking that a mascot of some kind would help my studen… Continue

Making a difference

People ask frequently what we're achieving in terms of real gains with the investment of technologies like Podcasting in education. They want a real, tangible example or a test score that clearly indicates that the investment is paying off in ways they are used to measuring. I would be the first to say that it is unclear to what extent we can uniformly say that technology makes a substantial impact on learning that can be tested with a bubble test. Among other areas, project-based learning and d… Continue

Pushing change over the edge

It's frustrating, it looks like once you drop your quarter in, it will push the stacks of quarters over the edge and into the palm of your hand. You insert your quarter, aim carefully and drop it and what happens? It get absorbed and the stack of existing coins moves very little. H… Continue

I am impressed!

I wanted to share with the future educators how proud I am of your thinking and conversations on this site so far. In the very near future, more members will be joining future teachers, including administrators and other students. I believe that you have set a great tone for future conversations. Chances are that some or all of you will be recruited by districts from here and I wish you all the best of luck. You have chosen one of the most challenging and rewarding careers that exists and I salu… Continue
