I am looking forward to experimenting with Skype, Tokbox and other similar programs. The cold, hard fact is that our district blocks these sites. I would like to encourage the pre-service teachers to be ready to have a dialog with their administra...

Another great aspect of social bookmarking is when you have a friend who is looking for a web site you can share your bookmarks with that friend. I use Dean Mantz's Diigo bookmarks many times a week because I know her has a great tagging system an...

I've never used Tokbox, but have used Skype and Oovoo. I like Oovoo better simply because of the skin and that we had three people in our conversation.

Tokbox is great when you want to have multiple users. We actually had a big family chat on it (from KS to CA) earlier today! I like Skype and Google chat too!

Tokbox is a great program! @dmantz7 introduced me to that :) I personally use gmail in my classroom, because skype is blocked in our district. I am also looking at dimdim. Good luck!

I think I could use Google Apps in my classroom in a couple different ways. First, I could use the spreadsheet. Since it's math, i could have my students collect data for a survey and type the information into the spreadsheet. Either the students ...

"Green Screen" Project

For our "green screen" project, we decided to make a public service announcement about the safety of weight lifting. The safety dealt mostly with form and how you are supposed to lift weights without injuring yourself. A good way to communicate the ideas effectively is to have a video of someone doing a lift, while another person is talking as the lift is being performed. This is what we did. One person was lifting, one person was filming, and then the other person provided the voice-overs. Each… Continue

Digital Storytelling Project

This was the first time I have used Windows Movie Maker so it took me a little while to get used to it and understand what all it could do. It wasn't very difficult to put slides together; it was actually easier than I expected. But one thing I did have trouble with was when I added text to be displayed on a certain slide. I added it to the selected slide but then whenever I deleted a slide or added a slide, it messed up the timing of everything. I thought that when I clicked add text to the sel… Continue

Tokbox

During last week's class, we communicated with a couple different people through tokbox. I was not familiar with this website before, but I found it very interesting. You can talk with other people online and see them live. Most the communicating I do online requires me to type long messages. But with tokbox, you can talk to them and see them. It is much more convenient. And if something is wrong with your video camera or microphone, you can still type messages to them. I think this would be eff… Continue

Social Networking in Education & Education World "Social Bookmarking"

The first article I read was "Social Networking in Education." The thing that really jumped out at me was the fact that 96 percent of students indulge in some type of conversation on the Internet. I did not find this surprising though. Today, there are so many different ways to interact with other people from online. Facebook and MSN are the two that I am most familiar with. I know a lot of people use Myspace and Twitter as well. Most people have a computer at home and have access to the Interne… Continue

Video storytelling is a great way for students to be creative and share ideas through a movie. The vidoes allow students to inform others on a topic that they are passionate about or something they believe is important. Kelly, Madison, and I did o...
